Hubbell Elementary School

Elementary school students at Hubbell may select from a variety of music ensembles that rehearse and perform right in their school: band, orchestra, and chorus. An ever-changing colorful student art display lines the hallways and library as well.

Hubbell Elementary shares a 30-acre site with Theodore Roosevelt High School and is located in the southeast corner of the block on 42nd St. Opening in the fall of 1911, the school predates Roosevelt High School by approximately 11 year. The building’s windows were restored to their original size in a recent renovation and decorative windows with Prairie Style motifs throughout the building were kept and restored. The school was named in honor of Frederick M. Hubbell, a prominent and wealthy Iowan who founded the Equitable Life Insurance Co. of Iowa.
