Streetscape Improvement Plan

During Roosevelt Cultural District Festival Week in July 2007, members of the Roosevelt Cultural District Vision Committee shared a concept streetscape improvement plan and receive comments and input from all interested parties at the Shops at Roosevelt, 847 42nd St. Over the next three months, the committee received comment from adjacent neighbors, neighborhood associations and the general public with the goal of completing a final concept for submission to city officials and possible grant sources in the Spring of 2008.

Vision Committee
In September 2006, the Roosevelt Cultural District Board of Directors appointed a Vision Committee with the charge of developing an overall vision plan for the district. Rod McCullough, Managing Director of The Des Moines Playhouse, is acting chair and secretary of the committee. The committee, made up of interested neighbors and including residents of surrounding neighborhoods as well as representatives of both Hubbell Elementary and Roosevelt High Schools, has met regularly since that time. The Vision Committee has developed a concept plan, with the assistance of Simonson & Associates Architects, for roadway improvements in the district, including changes to 42nd, Rollins, Chamberlain, and Crocker Streets, as well as possible sites for public art installations.
